Mayor Alice Alarid Lucero is a native and lifelong resident of Española. Growing up in a large family gave her an appreciation for the important things in life, such as; family, moral values, integrity, education and a good work ethic. Española has a long history and is rich in culture and tradition.  She grew up in a family that celebrated religious and Hispanic traditions dating back to old Spain.  These experiences inspired her love of multi-cultures and the arts. Mayor Lucero and her husband Elmer have been married since 1970. They have four sons, five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

  •  Improve quality of life for residents young and old;
  •  Improve utility and street infrastructure;
  •  Create a more appealing view of our City by establishing beautification projects to promote    economic development to attract new business, thereby providing jobs and higher City revenues  for enhanced City services.
  •  Implemented Policies and Procedures to  provide for accountability;
  •  Completed audits dating back to 2006 and up to 2015.  Currently working on FY 16 Audit; last three years included clean audits;
  •  Improved City parks and completed Phase I of Regional Sportsplex, currently working on Phase II;
  •  Median beautification project has made City more appealing and instill pride in community;
  •  Approximately 15 new businesses have opened their doors in the last couple years, we are working with  about 4 more to come  in the next year;
  •  Completed over 8 Million Dollars  in infrastructure projects including replacement of old water and sewer lines, replaced two old water tanks with new tanks, brought two wells online and blended waters to  avoid contamination levels, made improvements to wastewater treatment plant,   repaved streets and City parking lots;
  •  Constructed amphitheatre style seating at the Veteran’s Memorial on the Plaza;
  •  Constructed new Judicial Complex;
  •  Made improvements to various City facilities, including renovation of public library;
  •  Established NNM Regional Art Center;
  •  Founded and established the NNM Anti-Drug Implementation Team and meet monthly with members from U.S. Attorney’s Office, NM DPS, NM HIDTA, DEA, Local Law Enforcement, Prevention Specialists and Treatment Providers, Public School Officials, Hospital Administrator, and other coalitions;
  •  Hosted Annual Anti-Drug SMART Summits since 2011 to promote alternative activities and programs for youth, including employment opportunities.
