The City of Espaņola announces a
PUBLIC HEARING AND AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION

DOCUMENT (EID)
for the
ESPAÑOLA ARSENIC ABATEMENT PROJECT AT CITY WELL NO. 1

PURPOSE OF MEETING:

The City of Espaņola is proposing to install an arsenic treatment system at Well No. 1, one of eight existing groundwater production wells in the City’s public water system. Abatement of arsenic at Well Number 1 is necessary for the City to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s revised Arsenic Rule, which lowers the Maximum Contaminant Level for arsenic. The estimated total cost for the project is $967 thousand.

Residents, landowners and all interested parties are invited to attend the public hearing to discuss the proposed arsenic abatement project. The hearing will include an open house followed by comments from those attending. The hearing will provide an opportunity for the project design team and city representatives to meet interested members of the public, discuss the project, and receive comments on:

  • Proposed improvements and issues of local importance
  • Cultural and biological resources in the project vicinity

The draft EID will be available for review at the following locations from Thursday June 17, 2007 to August 2, 2007:
