Meet the 2013 Española Fiesta Council

President -- Ruth Ann Galván-Vargas

Ruth Ann Galvan-Vargas is a life-long resident of Española. Ruth Ann has been employed with Los Alamos National Laboratory for the past twenty-three years. She is celebrating her twenty-five years of marriage this year to her soul mate Joel A. Vargas, Sr. She has 2 children, Joel A. Vargas, Jr. (22) and Candace S. Vargas (20). Her daughter, Candace Vargas, was La Reina for the 2012 Española Fiesta.

Ruth Ann volunteered with the New Mexico Hispano Music Association in the organization of the Children and Youth Talent Competition for the past 8 years. She also participates in various wellness/charitable committees within LANL. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. She feels that by being a Fiesta Council President, she and her family may give back to Española, a community that has given so much to them.

Vice President/Oñate and Cuadrilla Chairman -- Jeremy Maestas

Jeremy Maestas, a native from the beautiful Española Valley, was raised in the community of Hernandez, where he still resides. Jeremy attended the Española Public Schools and graduated from Española Valley High School. Afterwards Jeremy continued his education at Northern New Mexico College while employed as a Substitute Teacher for the Carlos F. Vigil Middle School with the Española Public Schools for three years. Currently Jeremy serves as the President for the District Parent Advisory Committee of the Española Public Schools, Is a Member of the Committee to build the Hernandez Community Center, and is employed by Rio Arriba County. Jeremy was raised by his father, Gusman Maestas, Jr., and his grandparents, Gusman Maestas, Sr. and Nora Maestas, all of Hernandez.

Secretary, Co-Treasurer, Photographer -- Genevieve Gonzales

My name is Genevieve Gonzales and I am live in La Puebla, NM with my husband Floyd and children Floyd Jr. and Vanessa. This will be our second year involved with the Española Fiestas. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting summer meeting new people and making new friendships. The Española Fiestas has given our family the opportunity to be involved in positive activities throughout the summer. I hope other families in our beautiful valley take the opportunity to enjoy the fiestas this year in a safe, positive and fun way.

Treasurer -- Christi Ann Olguin

I was born and raised in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico. Graduated from Escalante High School in 1980. Moved to the beautiful town of Espanola, New Mexico in 1994. I Have two kids, a son Raymond Martinez and a daughter April Martinez. I have background experiences in Accounting, 8 Years with Zia Credit Union and 10 Years at L.A.N.L. Currently still working for L.A.N.L is a Administrators Assistant for EES-14.

Entertainment Chair -- Antionette Gabriela Vigil

Antionette has three children and works at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She served as Fiesta Council Deputy Secretary in 2011.

Princessita Co-Chair -- Janaisa Chavez

My name is Janaisa Chavez. I am 23 years old. I’m am from El Llano. I have two children: Taliah and Markia Maestas. I am a 2007 graduate of Española Valley High School. My fiancé is Daniel Maestas of Hernandez. We have been part of the Fiestas de Española since 2012. My eldest daughter Taliah has served as a princessita for the past two years. This year she will also be part of the princessitas court, and I will be Co-Chairing the Princessitas Court also.

Princessita Co-Chair -- Erica Crystal Martinez

Erica Crystal Martinez lives in Abiquiu with her family. She has three amazing children. She loves to take care of others, and really enjoys her two dogs, Rusty and Smokes. This is her first year with the Fiesta Council. Her daughter, Alexiana, will be portraying one of the Princessitas, and she will be Co-Chairing the Princessitas Court.

Princessa Co-Chair -- Linda Ortega

Hi, my name is Linda Ortega. I was born in Española and raised in Chimayo by my parents Salvador and Tonnie Martinez and Johnny and Suzzane Ortega from La Mesilla, NM. Growing up I would yearly attend the Fiesta Del Valle de Española. In 2012 I became a fiesta council member and have continued now in 2013. Que Viva la Fiesta!

Member -- Bernadette Jaramillo

My name is Bernadette L. Jaramillo, I am from Chimayo, New Mexico. I have one daughter, Kendall Joy Jaramillo. My Parents are Ray and Viola Martinez, also of Chimayo, New Mexico. I am currently employed by the United States Postal Services. In my spare time I volunteer for several different organizations. I currently serve on the New Mexico Hispano Music Awards Association as the Youth Coordinator. I am also a member of the Cancer Society, Cultura Promotions, The Veterans Memorial Wall, and the Fiesta Council. My dream is to one day record my own CD. My goals are to continue volunteering and helping the homeless in our Community. My Faith and love for God have given me the strength, health, and kindness to pursue my goals, knowing that when I leave this world I have touched the hearts of all those I have met.

Member -- Frances Archuleta

Frances M. Archuleta was born to parents Mr. and Mrs. Amado Archuleta. Frances was raised in a small farm in Dixon where she still resides. She is currently working for Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Records Management Specialist.

Frances attended Dixon Elementary, John F. Kennedy in Junior High School, and Española Valley High School, graduating in 1984. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Phoenix.

During her spare time Frances likes to shop, serve her community, and spend time with her family. She joined the Fiesta Council to use her experience to help better the council and involve herself in community relations.

Member -- John Ramon Vigil

I am a proud resident of the beautiful Española Valley. This Fall I will be a Senior at Española Valley High School. In addition to my involvement with school, I serve as the State President for the New Mexico Association of Student Councils (NMASC). My family has always been active in the community and I assume this was passed onto me. This is my third year as a Fiesta Council Member and my fourth year being involved in the Council, the first year serving as a volunteer. My involvement in the Española Fiesta Council helps me work towards the betterment of this community. It is important to me to always try to do my part to give back to this beautiful valley.

Member -- Valerie Naranjo-Maestas

Valerie Naranjo-Maestas, native New Mexican from La Mesilla, NM, currently employed with Los Alamos National Laboratory. My wonderful parents are Leonard and Evelyn Garduno from Nambe, NM. The center and Rock in my life is God. My pride, love and joy are my beautiful children Angelica, Naomi/Joel, and Carmella, my wonderful grandchildren, Ally, Anna, and Natalie.

I have been involved in many activities for the past 20 years throughout Pojoaque and the Española Valley. The things I enjoy most are being with my family, helping, encouraging, loving people, and being involved in church and community activities.
