As City Manager for the City of Española , I make it my mission to ensure that our citizens receive the very best in customer service. Our staff of approximately 200 employees is working hard to provide friendly and efficient services to the people of Española . Whether it’s a police officer on bike patrol, a Parks and Recreation employee at the Lucero Center, or a staff member in one of the many offices located inside City Hall, it is our goal to ensure that you area treated with respect in an honest and friendly environment. Short Biography
Mr. Gustavo Cordova is the current City Manager of the City of Española New Mexico. The Mayor and Council appointed him to that position on January 17, 2007.
He is the former Executive Director of the New Mexico Association of Counties, having served in that position for the previous two years.
He is also the former Town Manager of the Town of Taos; he served in this capacity for 19 and one-half years. He was re-appointed by each of the past five Mayors of Taos, and was one of the longest tenured professional managers in New Mexico.
In addition, he is a retired reserve military officer, and holds the rank of Colonel. A Vietnam veteran, with over 27 years of reserve military service, he is the recipient of the coveted Profile of Courage award, and several other military decorations including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Gus holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree from New Mexico Highlands University. He completed his graduate degree under a full fellowship from the National Institutes of Health.
He is also a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. He has served as the President of the New Mexico City Management Association, as Regional Vice President of the International City and County Management Association, member of the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board, and a current member of the International Hispanic Network Board of Directors.
Gus is the recipient of the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award, the Exemplary Performance Award from the Selective Service, and the Community Service Award from the International Hispanic Network.
He has served on the Board of Directors of Quality New Mexico, the New Mexico Finance Authority, the New Mexico Water Trust Board, the New Mexico Tax Research Institute, and a charter member of Leadership New Mexico.
