Construction Progress Report - Period: August 1 through August 31, 2006 Contract Work Activities - Western Summit of New Mexico (WSNM) continued construction on the northern half of the aeration basin during this report period, placing approximately 163 CY of 4000 PSI concrete for walls identified as W2, W10 and W13. Subcontractors JD Steel and Formwork Specialties continued with the installation of reinforcing bars and preparation/removal of concrete formwork for the aeration basin walls as necessary. Placement and compaction of backfill on the north side of the aeration basin attained an elevation of approximately four feet below final subgrade by August 31. WSNM completed installation, encasement and backfill of process piping, including the 10-inch diameter sludge withdrawal and 6-inch diameter drain piping under the east and west clarifiers, prior subgrade preparation. Placement, compaction and grading of select fill subgrade material and placement of the 4-inch lift of granular material to completed subgrade elevation for both clarifiers was completed prior to commencing clarifier slab placement. JD Steel and Formwork Specialties completed installation of reinforcing bars and concrete formwork for both east and west clarifier slabs during the report period. By the end of August, WSNM had placed approximately 201 CY of 4000 PSI concrete for west clarifier slabs S5, S6, S7 and S8 and for east clarifier slabs S10 and S11. DH Underground mobilized to the project site on August 7 to bore a 12-inch diameter steel casing under the plant roadway southeast of the existing aeration basin. The casing was intended as alternative to trenching fifteen feet below the roadway surface for installation of a 6-inch diameter drainage line. The casing diameter was increased to 20-inches after the boring’s initial advance was prevented by rock approximately two to five inches in diameter - larger than was able to be processed through the smaller diameter casing. Installation of ninety feet of 20-inch diameter casing was successfully completed on August 17. WSNM realigned the initial 15 feet of casing closest to the sump pump station by exposing the end of the casing and lowering to maintain a downward slope for the 6-inch diameter drain line listed as New Yard Piping No. 21. The 6-inch ductile iron drainage line was installed through the casing and into the side of the existing drain pump station located southeast of the existing aeration basin on August 28. Six-inch diameter plug valves, wyes, bends and all other appurtenances necessary to connect the new drain line from the west side of the new aeration basin were installed by the end of the month. Pueblo Electric used six days to complete installation and backfill of electrical duct bank P07-SPR-001 from the sludge pump building to the south edge of the plant entrance road. Encasement of the electrical bank required 19 CY of 3000 PSI concrete colored red for electrical work. WSNM continued dewatering operations within the mass excavation area throughout the month of August. Ground water pumped from the mass excavation area was released into the treated plant effluent discharge line. Below are links to 10 project site photos taken during this report period which are representative of work completed this period.
